[xwin-discuss] Proper way to configure a monitor?

Before I go and slap together a xorg.conf file, I'm wondering what the corect 
way of setting up a monitor with a fresh install of OpenSolaris 2008.05 is? For 
starters, where do I go to specify my monitor refresh rate/etc? Do I simply 
start by creating a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and then go from there or is there 
a better way>?
