I copied Erwann's libnimbus.so to my system, and am now
able to run the 32-bit emacs-gtk on it without
any assertions!
Encouraged, I plunged into diagnosing why 64-bit
emacs-gtk won't run at all. I've started a new thread
for that issue, as it's a different problem than the
one we've been discussing here:

As before, if you have GLIB experience, and would like to see emacs/gtk
bundled into OpenSolaris, I can use your help.
