It takes time to port to the different interfaces, test, package, and release,
and then maintain them going forward. There's a lot of drivers, so that's a
lot of time.

The X11 group does not have the people and time to do that unless we drop
other projects we're working on. Would the community rather see that than
having us keep Xorg up to date with the latest x86 drivers? Than getting
suspend-and-resume working on x86? Sadly, we have limits on our resources,
and the people who could decide to give us more aren't out here in the forums
listening to your wish list.

It is for the X11 group, which is why we're pushing for Xorg. For the
SPARC graphics group, who will have to maintain the drivers either way,
it will be more expensive to port than not to. Unfortunately, we're under
very different parts of the company, so it's hard to step back and get someone
to take a Sun-wide point of view about what's best for everyone.
