A majority of SPARC desktops are bought by organizations which want to continue to run the environment they have already deployed. We could talk ourselves blue in the face saying a transition from Xsun to Xorg would be transparent to most applications (ignoring things like the loss of DPS), but most wouldn't believe it nor commit to (up to) a 18 month qualification cycle to verify it. We have many more organizations requesting new SPARC product support on Solaris 8 than we do a move from Xsun to Xorg (on Solaris 10, no less).
