Chiara Modenese proposed the following answer: Yes, of course as it determines the critical time step of the simulation. So you might also think of increasing your particle size but I would suggest to play with either stiffness or strain rate first as also Bruno suggested. If you use cohesive bonds, depending on how you define the cohesive law, there might be some scaling issues if you change the particle size from the one of the real material.
