finally I checked through a Process Manager program (you could use
Task Manager), and it showed that Yahoo Messenger was using about 90%
of the CPU cycles. I think one of the plugins may be the culprit. I
didn't check to see how much memory Yahoo Messenger was using.

I've experienced similar behavior with only one plug-in running. The
plug-in was Yahoo! Music LAUNCHcast. I'm not completely sure that
it's plug-in related. At the time, messenger was minimised to the
system tray, and no music was playing.

I have a duel core processor and the CPU usage was at 50% which is
consistent with a single thread going crazy (A thread will generally
only use one processor, so one processor was tweaked out and the other
was mostly idle). I also notice that it was leaking memory. At the
time I gave it the axe, it was at 142,764k which is nearly three times
the normal amount used while inactive.

Similar events have happened in the past but I didn't collect any data
at the time.

What version were you using? Just curious. (Help->About from
messenger's main window is the easiest way to find out.)

The version I was using at the time was 8.0.0.683. I upgraded to
8.0.0.711 yesterday. Only time will tell if the problem was cured
since it's a fairly random occurrence.

Anyone know if these minor revisions are publicised anywhere? The
download page only give the major version. I had to download and
install it in order to determine the version number.
