Your first mistake was upgrading to a new version but Yahoo does need guinea
pigs. The first thing I do when I download a new version of YM is go into
the Program Folder and change the name of the file "yupdater.exe" so that my
YM won't phone home to tell Yahoo that I have an old version so they never
try to force feed me a new version. I'm still using version 7.5.xxx and
will not upgrade unless or until I see a need. Mine works great 99% of the
time and when it's not working, it's almost always related to Yahoo Servers,
not my computer or program.

Further, when doing an upgrade, you should always do full uninstall of the
old version and a clean install of the new FULL version... not the installer
version that Yahoo forces on people as a default. Read my post
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Yahoo_Messenger/message/5220 which
explains this process with XP. I'm not a Vista user yet so I can't help you
with how it would be done with Vista. Your new download could have corrupt
file or dll which would affect how the program works in certain instances,
like with your "Phone out" problem. I find that doing a clean and full
install makes it less likely to have corrupted files or dll's.

Subject: [Y!M] Yahoo Messenger, Windows Vista and Phone Out - H E L P !

Hello all,

This is Alan in Las Vegas. For the last couple of weeks I've been having a
problem using the Phone Out feature which I had been using sucessfully for
the last couple of months. My setup is a shown in the subject area above.

---> The problem started a week or two ago when I logged on to YM and
was prompted to download a new version. Everything installed smoothly but
when I used it for the first time and tried to use "Phone Out" it would not
call out. I then noticed that I did not see the credit for the money that I
had before I upgraded. Clicking on the words "Phone Out" showed a screen
that DID verify that I had money in my account.
The problem that the credit is not showing on my YM screen, which it must
before I can use it to call out. As a result, I cannot use those credits to
call out. <---

I have sent several e-mails to billing and they seem to be stumped as to
what is happening. They keep telling me that there is credit in my Phone Out
account.

Any Ideas? Thanks and regards, Alan
