Sounds like you might have a YM related virus or other malware. If you've ever clicked on a link sent by someone via YM, there is a likely chance you've been infected. Whenever someone supposedly sends you a link to click, send them an IM and ask them if they actually sent you the link and what it is. This is how many YM related malware is spread. People don't even realize they have something and their YM is sending out these links and messages to everyone on their friends list and also using their YM as part of zombie bot-net sending out IM's to everyone else on the internet. If you did get a virus or trojan, then it has likely spread itself to other sections of your computer and is trying to log YM back on so it can do it's misdeeds.
Whenever anyone gets an IM that is blank or has some garbled text, they should report the IM as spam. Do not reply to these spam-bot IM's and NEVER click on a link from an IM until you have verified the sender actually sent it. Which antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc. do you run? Spybot is a good program but it's limited to what it can find and fix. You should boot into safe mode and run your antivirus and other programs like Adaware, Spybot, a good anti spyware like Spy Sweeper or CounterSpy (two that use or have used). Then uninstall YM and run all of the cleanup programs again in safe mode. You should also run HijackThis and post the log in one of the many computer security forums for diagnosis. Here is my post about how to uninstall and clean out all old traces of a regular YM install but even if you do this, if you have a trojan, it may have embedded itself into other dll's or files on your computer. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Yahoo_Messenger/message/5220 Here is a good forum that I occasionally use when I suspect something might not be right with one of my computers and I can't figure it out myself. http://www.castlecops.com/forums.html They also have an entire thread of steps to be taken to clean a computer of malware so look for it in the pinned topics section. It used to work fine until the other day. Now, all of a sudden, if i'm not running it, it pops up every 5 minutes for me to log on. A concurrent problem is blank offline messages from one dungcoi_vb, as soon as I do log on, with a request to be added as a buddy. I've got him on my ignore list, to no avail. I've googled this problem, and there only seem to be two suggestions. 1) just put him on ignore. (been there, done that...doen't work) and 2) buy some good antivirus software. Gee, thanks. I have one, and I've also run spybot. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling YM 8.1. Same problem. I'm not the only one with this problem...it seems to have been out there for several months...maybe only a few people have it...there is some Asian person with a dungcoi_vb ID...i've seen his messages on some discussion site...but it's not in English...i've sent him a message saying WTF? No response. Even tried adding him as a buddy, but it times out or something. Anybody got any other ideas? No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
