OK. Since the Yahoo ID and password are working on other Yahoo services,
then it's definitely something to do with the installation of YM, not the
ID/password.

Have you rebooted your computer since this issue started happening? If you
haven't, try that (you'd be amazed at how many "issues" are often fixed by
rebooting a computer) but if that doesn't work either, then it's probably
time to do a new, clean and FULL version install of YM.

I have an article on my blog about doing a new, clean and FULL version
install of YM for XP but other than the location of the Add/Remove Programs
section, now called Programs And Features in Vista, the rest of the
instructions are basically the same. Here's the link to my article...

yahoo.html

You haven't answered any of the firewall questions but the above uninstall,
clean-up and FULL version reinstall should get you a prompt from the
firewall, if that was blocking things. Further, the running of CCleaner
will also clean out your Temp Internet Files, which will also clean out your
cookies folder if you allow it to. Often, cookies will be the reason for
sign-in issues as the cookies are one way that websites remember you. If
you do not want to clear out all of your cookies, at least, using CCleaner,
go through and remove ALL of the Yahoo related cookies. Make sure you have
all of your ID's/passwords remembered or written down if you choose to
remove all cookies.

There's one other thing you can check, even with YM not signed in, you can
access the Messenger Menu and Connection Preferences. Check your Connection
Preferences to make sure they are set properly.

It quit working on this computer, the pc is a Dell, I use wireless internet,
it has Vista os on it. It just forgot the password it had known for over
two weeks. I changed the password.. I typed in the old yahoo ID and then
deleted it with the delete key on my pc. I typed in the new yahoo ID. I
typed in the old password and deleted it too with the delete key on my pc,
And finally I typed in the new password but it still wouldn't sign on. the
yahoo ID and password works fine to get into my groups and the yahoo ID and
password works fine to read the mail. I am bewildered!

Is this a new install or was it working on this same computer
before?

Vista has security controls that might be blocking it. Are you using
the
Vista Windows Firewall or do you have a 3rd party firewall?

Have you tried checking email or any other Yahoo services with the
user ID
and password to make sure they are working?

highlight my
user name and hit the delete key on my pc, retype my yahoo ID and do
the
same with the password. I have done all of that and still can't get
into
messenger. CAN ANYONE IN HERE HELP ME?????
