I was using YM 8.1x for quite a while on my Vista-HP laptop with no problems. I still run 8.1x on my other two XP machines but have since upgraded the Vista-HP machine to 9.0x, mainly so I could become more familiar with it to help folks out here. They both work fine for me.
One thing you can try is right clicking on the YM shortcut in your Programs list (not any of the other shortcuts) and choose Run As Administrator, presuming you have Admin privileges. I had to do that with a few programs after I installed them on my Vista-HP computer, to get them past some of the UAC security. I specifically remember having to do it for Spybot to work properly. I do not recall if I had to with YM but then I did do a FULL and CLEAN install of YM whenever I have to install it on a computer, instead of the Yahoo standard half-baked installer version. See next paragraph. Read over my blog article about how to do a FULL and CLEAN install of YM on XP (and Vista is pretty much the same except for having to approve the .exe file with the UAC security). If you did a typical install from Yahoo, that is likely a big part of your problem as you will see in my blog article. http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2007/11/how-i-always-do-clean-instal-ofl- yahoo.html Lenny Vasbinder http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com FREE and automatic online remote backup of your documents, photos and files... https://mozy.com/?ref=SY4ZSI Check out how simple and secure it can be to use the Mozy remote backup system. There seems to be a major conflict going on when I try to run YM. Has anyone else encountered this? What version of YM works best with VISTA?
