It's good that you got the FULL download BUT did you clean up your computer after uninstalling the old version? If not, you could still have remnants of the old version causing your new download and install to have problems. When I had 8.1x on my Vista H.P. machine, it worked fine. I still have 8.1x on my two XP machines with no problems and I have 9.0x on my Vista H.P. machine with no problems. If this was a fresh install, then the UAC security might have blocked one or more of the thousands of .cab files from installing properly and you might have to uninstall, clean-up and reinstall to fix it... and turn off your security programs when installing, just to make sure you get a clean install. I like Comodo Internet Security as I can put it into the "installation" mode when installing a new program so the security does not block the program. If I try to install in normal mode, I would get a series of pop-ups making sure I am authorizing this program to access the registry, etc., but any one of these pop-ups could also cause a bad installation.
You should open Task Manager after starting up your computer, then go to the Processes Tab and sort the CPU column to show which processes are using up a LOT of CPU (processor capability) when you start up YM. It's probably going to be only the YahooMessenger.exe process but if others are spiking up, then you could have something else going on causing YM to stall during start-up. This could be your security programs, firewall, etc., so this use of Task Manager would help to identify or at least eliminate some possibilities. Your other option is to do a full uninstall, clean up your computer per my blog article and then reinstall YM to see if you get a better install. YM just has so much going on with the program that there are so many things that can go wrong during an install. One last note... do you have any add-ons running in YM? If so, get rid of them, turn them off in YM and then delete them from YM. I find that add-ons will also cause YM problems and there are usually better ways to listen to music or get the news or weather rather than an add-on in YM. Keep it lean and mean and it will usually work better. Also, if you have YM tied to any other programs on your computer, like Trillian or other 3rd party apps, turn them off as well. I also belong to and help out in many other Yahoo Groups for computer technical issues and add-ons are the cause of SOOO MANY problems for the original programs. I use very few add-ons with any of my programs that have them available. Even Google Desktop will cause Outlook to hang sometimes due to conflicts with GD. I'm tempted to get rid of GD again because of this. I was able to isolate GD as the cause of my Outlook problems by using the Task Manager, Process Tab, CPU sorted view so this may also help you with your YM problem. Of course, it could also just be a bad intall. I've had times in the past where I would try to close an IM window and YM would freeze up for around 5 seconds and this was after YM was working fine for a long time... something just got corrupted and only an uninstall, cleanup and reinstall fixed the bug. Should I upgrade Yahoo Msgr? It seems that when I run YM, the system will hang up at times. And I either have to signon off and back on, or do a complete restart, and its becoming a BIG pain in the butt! HELP! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Oh btw Lenny, I got the download for this YM 8.1.0.249 from one of your suggested sites, and NOT the Yahell site! Thanks in advance again!
