Comrades one thing that we can all agree upon before continuing with this discussion is that education is the cornerstone of development and economic growth of any country. education is what keeps the economy going through the continuous injection of skills into the sector that makes our youth marketable in the working place.
having slightly sighted the importance of education there is however nothing worse then unskilled graduates or unskilled educated people who join the workplace without even a single clue as to how their degree actually impacts in the working environment. now a number of corporates have indicated in previous years that a company on average has to spend more than R 10 000.00 per new employee on training and skills development on something they should have learned from Universities Technical Institutions and so forth. This then gives out a clear indication that our education system is falling the youth because it is not giving them skills that are required in the working environment. this has became so much of a problem that the only reason now companies including government when employing people is experience because the do not want to waste time on inexperienced(unskilled) fresh graduates. The F.E.T sector part of education has been the most promising according to my own observation in terms of skills capacity and skills transfer rather than pure Theoretical Rhetoric that is primarily found on universities. i think that indeed our education system should be centralized to ensure that we have similar education standards in South Africa because these are part of the reasons why the rich is getting richer because they stand better chances of getting jobs if they have studied in Wits where tuition fees are high unlike the poor who go to University of Zululand and become stigmatized because they could not afford to study on expensive institutions so creating a similar syllabus's will indeed help Communist Regards Njabulo Nzuza ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 2:53:53 PM Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: Transformation of Education in South Africa We should keep FET's for our Artisans, there only thing we need is to give them support they want each institution infrastructure and all relevant resources to them.
