Although I am not a client I support the conference by our community sex workers and also the support shown by the YCL to these daughters of the soil.
Believers will tell you that the oldest profession in the bible is espoinage and *prostitution* but if you put to the South African context you will find that prostitution, in its current, derive its existence from the metamorphic stages of capitalism in this country. Capitalism commodified sex, our fathers and forefathers left their families in the rural areas and came to the gold mines in the then Transvaal Province (now called Gauteng). They were housed in men's hostels and were not allowed to bring in females colleagues. This promoted casual and commercial sex. Commercially, this went on to part of "spots" (drinking places) were mine immigrants drank and it is in these "spots" that money and liquor exhanged hands in favour of sex. It is where our great grand parents downed their sorrows and nostalgia. It is from these drinking holes, by-products of apartheid laws, that our fathers got nyatsi and makhwapheni. They unwittingly became willing victims of capitalism. Within this metamorphosis sex there is a missing link, that of depriving of sisters education and economic opportunities, and this created skewed family patterns that had an element of wanting to resort to wrong means in attaining better, this be sex, crime etc. So in all I support the call for decriminalising it rather than legalising it. If you legalise there is a potential of institutionalising it and this will subsequently promote it. Imagine a situation where people get *nivarna through sex, or prosperity through .... * *Let us decriminalise.* On 2/8/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > > > I missed the confie, i understand " my mother was a kitchen girl, my > father a garden boy, that's y am a communist...was sang differently at the > confie, the word "that is why I am a communist were change to that is why > I am a sex worker.> > I appaud the YCL in taking a lead in this sector of our society. > > > > On Fri, Feb 6, 2009 at 2:53 PM, Mafika Mndebele > > <[email protected]>wrote: > > > >> > >> > >> *The media statement of the young communist league in KZN on sex workers > >> conference * > >> > >> The Young Communist League in KwaZulu Natal had observed with keen > >> interest > >> the first sex workers conference which took place in Johannesburg from > >> the > >> 3-5 this month.
