Why only 1million by 2O14 solar installation? Is it because of cost? what are the cost of constructing, running and decommissioning a coal power station including hidden cost to people, soil, water, air, climate, animals and plants. Why still piloting solar when government agrees that we are heading for blackouts, climate change catastrophy, water shortages, soil erossion etc? And the technology have so many proven advantages for the working class and poor.who benefits from the present energy markert in sa? Why government put more money on degerous energy solutions than to those that put the interests of the working class and poor? It is a fact that the world bank loan will finance these dirty short sighted solutions. What need to be done is aggressive, radical progressive and just transision to renewable energy solutions that will put the interest of the working class and poor first before those of the profiteers. We must ask these questions, demand answers, expose the lies, promote sustainable alternatives, but we also need to educate ourselves, organise and agitate for real shift to take place. Shift that will bring about a system based on the needs of the majority of people and nuture that we depend on for survival of human kind and not profits of the few. It is a shame that the african national congress stands to benefit from the coal power construction that will have long lasting impacts on the working class, the poor and the environment. It is a shame that sa have taken a world bank loan that future generations will have to service. We have really become a place of borrowers. Sa have consciously opted for a long term debt that could become similar to that of the arms deal. We must always ask ourselves who benefits and who suffers? Look at the benefits thrown at us against those of prfiteers. The struggle for economic, social, political, cultural etc justice can not be separated from the struggle for socialism because it is the logical answer to the self inflicted capitalist crisis.
