*Malema leadership rejected by 5 factions* *Sibusiso Ngalwa, Sunday Independent, Johannesburg, 11 July 2010*Julius Malema's ANC Youth League is disintegrating, with three more provinces headed for the courts - as factions in most provinces reject his leadership.
The Sunday Independent can report that Mpumalanga's Ehlanzeni regional leadership will file an urgent application in the high court tomorrow seeking to nullify the "bogus" regional conference which took place this weekend.
Ehlanzeni (Nelspruit) regional secretary Diketso Khanyile said they would be getting a mandate from their structures about going to court. Ehlanzeni is Mpumalanga's biggest region, with 92 branches.
Meanwhile, the disbanded Western Cape and North West want to challenge the decision to dissolve them, citing the precedent set by the findings of the Grahamstown High Court on Friday in the matter involving the disbanded Eastern Cape provincial executive.
Judge Nomathamsanqa Beshe found the decision by the league's national working committee (NWC) to disband the Eastern Cape provincial executive committee (PEC) "unlawful".
This means five provinces or factions in Limpopo, North West, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga are rebelling against Malema's leadership.
Eastern Cape, Western Cape and the North West were disbanded by the Malema-controlled national leadership.
Apparently youth league secretary-general Vuyiswa Tulelo - during a meeting with some members of the disbanded Western Cape PEC on Friday - accused those who had failed to attend the meeting of plotting to take the organisation to court. She could not be reached for comment.
A Western Cape youth leader said: "The court outcome changes everything... it proves our argument that the NEC has no powers to disband provinces".
North West league chairman Khoza Pelele said they were preparing to go to court tomorrow too.
"The problem is that if you don't agree with (the national leadership) then you are disbanded. They are killing the youth league and we won't allow that," said Pelele.
So far, Malema's enemies have the upper-hand given the psychological and legal boost from the league's loss in the Eastern Cape court. Triumphant Eastern Cape chairman Mlibo Qoboshiyana - who dubbed Malema "an embarrassment" in court papers - said the Grahamstown outcome was a "lesson" to Malema's leadership.
ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said they had met with the league with the view to assist.
While the youth league is understood to be planning to expel the dissidents, Mantashe hinted that "high- handedness does not build an organisation". The court cases were a consequence of "some degree of instability" in the youth league, he said.
But Malema is not giving up yet. Spokesman Floyd Shivambu indicated that they would appeal the Grahamstown ruling.
Tomorrow the Joburg High Court will hear arguments in Masoga's case. He wants the court to stop his pending expulsion.
He has run a parallel provincial structure after his faction abandoned a chaotic conference and the Malema faction was "unanimously" elected.
