DENOSA
*DENOSA Media Statement, 24 August 2010* *Makeshift wage offer; SANC utterances; barbaric behaviour by hospital CEO*DENOSA utterly condemns the propaganda perpetrated by government through the media in the current wage impasse.
Their public stunt of the so called new offer of an 8, 5 percent wage increasing is not only misleading but fuelling the already volatile situation which is a result of their reluctance to give workers what they deserve.
The 1, 5 percent that government is referring to is the performance based compensation that recognizes satisfactory performance for a period under review and therefore is not guaranteed. It is a mechanism that has been there. DENOSA further dismisses the claim that currently, government has no performance assessment tool. The performance management and development system (PMDS) is in place.
We wish to reiterate that our demands firmly remain an 8, 6 wage increase, R1 000 Housing Allowance, Equalisation of Medical Aid Subsidies and the 01 April 2010 as the implementation date, therefore we reject the so called new offer by government.
DENOSA calls on government to refrain from negotiating through the media, come forward with a realistic offer at the bargaining council so that we can address the impasse.
We have also noted with disgust the onslaught by the South African Nursing Council on nurses who are aggrieved by the employer's resistance to their demand of a living wage. SANC should back off because this is a Labour Relations issue. They should in turn focus on getting their house in order and stop de-servicing the profession.
We have never heard SANC addressing the appalling conditions of service for nurses - which are suppose to allow them to practice smoothly. They should therefore stop being opportunistic and focus on their core business!
DENOSA also condemns the behaviour of the CEO of Leratong Hospital, in the West Rand who blocked community members yesterday from visiting their relatives, citing striking workers as a threat. It cannot be correct to set the community against workers.
We applaud workers at Leratong hospital for intervening decisively and forcing the CEO to allow community members to see their relatives.
As DENOSA we have, over a number of years raised our concern in the management of health services in the country and what happened in Leratong hospital underlines this view.
