The 9th Congress of ZAPU, and the first full congress since withdrawal from the Unity Accord with ZANU(PF) took place from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th August at the Trade Fair, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. On the first day there were about 3 000 delegates. On the second day buses were still pouring in from places like Hurungwe, Chipinge and Binga, very far from Bulawayo. Anybody still with the impression that ZAPU is a regional party had that illusion shattered by the large delegations coming not only fom every province of Zimbabwe but also from South Africa, Uk and Canada.
The ideological and economic policy documents clearly put ZAPU in line with all those parties and governments pursuing a National Democratic agenda. When these become available, I will post them on this forum. Also, at the Congress, as Editor of ZIMCOM Publishers, I was allowed a short time to talk about the publishing house and the current worldwide growth in revolutionary democracy and communist party membership in many countries. I spoke openly about the creation of ZIMCOM Political Education Groups as the first step towards establishing a Zimbabwe Communist Party. I received rapturous applause: more importantly, the first staps towards creating groups in 5 centres, including Harare and Bulawayo, has already begun. -- You are subscribed.
