Dear Comrade,

Like many others, you understand bthe class questions, but not the question of
anti-imperialism. There can NEVER be a link between the MDC, with its close
ties to US/UK intelligence and any form of communist party. The strategy of
SADC has been very clear, though often for diplomatic reasons they do not
articulate the problem. They are fed-up with Mugabe but will do allin their
power to prevent an MDC takeover. The reason for sanctions and the
destabilisation campaign against Zimbabwe is mostly because of the defeat of
the US in the 2nd Congo War, which prevented not only their takeover of Congo,
but also of Angola. The fear, based on intelligence sources and the general
declared policy of the US to establish bases throughout Africa is the biggest
fear. Apart from some Trotskyist/liberal elements in the SACP. The battle for
the hearts and minds of the communist movement worldwide is about persuading
them that ZANU and Mugabe are wrong. At a recent meeting of African Communist
parties
in Johannesburg, there was still huge support for Mugabe, non for MDC.

Your contention that ZAPU is not a serious contender: the size of the recent
congress and the huge delegations coming from places far outside Matabeleland,
such as Hurungwe and Chipinge gives the lie to your contention. No party will
win outright if there is an immediate election. But ZAPU is growing at the
expense of the other two, on its way swallowing most of ZANU(PF) in
Matabeleland, almost all of the Mutambara MDC, almost all of the Zvobgo faction
of ZANU(PF) and the UPP in Masvingo. Almost all of ZANU (Ndonga). Given sober
reckoning, an immediate election would give ZAPU 20% - 30% of the vote. Another
year of organisation should give us far more. True, we are still weak in
Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Harare, nevertheless our growth rate
since the Convention of 2008 has been substantial and following the first full
congress since the pull-out, which now givesw us a substantive policy base and
leadership, the growth rate will now accelerate.
