This is indeed an extra ordinary decision by the YCLSA leadership to
distance themselves from their National Chairperson when they themselves in
this statement admit that... "The YCLSA has in the recent past expressed our
discomfort in the manner in which the Arcelor Mittal BEE deal has been
structured, and our general principled approach towards the role of
politicians or their immediate families and business interests, and our
opposition towards corruption and narrow BEE. We stand firmly on these views
and will never retreat in consistently raising them in a manner that seeks
to maintain the unity and cohesion of the alliance."

It seems to me that the National Chairperson simply expressed an already
adopted position because his statement is NOT in conflict with his
organisation's "discomfort" with the Arcelor Mittal BEE deal. This looks
like self censorship by the YCLSA National Leadership. Cde Masondo has
raised nothing new which would necessite that he first canvass it within the
structures what he raises in this article seems to be in sync with the
general view that the Arcelor Mittal deal smells... and I think he has
pitched it sharply much to the discomfort of his comrades.

No one was attacked and therefore there would be no strained relations
within the alliance as a result of this article. The Secretary General of
the ANC said on Saturday at the funeral of the former NUMSA President Cde
Mthuthuzeli Tom the alliance is not fragile - we must desist from thinking
that everytime there is an issue within the alliance there is a crisis. So
let us stop the self cencorship and engage with what Masondo is raising.

Communist Regards,
Thembela.
