23th March 2011 PRESS STATEMENT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The SACP in the Brian Bunting District (Cape Metro) has noted the recent ANC Regional Conference held on Saturday, 19 March 2011 in Bloekombos. We are pleased about the fact that a legitimately elected structure now exists to run the political programme of mass mobilisation and campaigns in time for the (May 18) local government elections. As the SACP we have, since the disbandment, consistently called for a leadership that reflects the class composition of the Alliance and not a winner takes all approach which, if not treated maturely, leads to triumphalism. It is encouraging to note that the left forces were not marginalised in the list processes for ward and PR candidates and also the Regional Congress itself. We are pleased that a number of communists have emerged in the respective lists in their own right as distinguished ANC cadres. We have noted and reject with the contempt it deserves the emerging tendency which, as a result of list process contradictions, projects the ANC Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe, as the cause of unresolved grievances. Those who are failing to resolve these organisational problems at the provincial level pass the buck to the office of the SG to try and make Gwede Mantashe unpopular with ANC branches in view of the 2012 ANC Conference. We condemn the behaviour by some comrades of storming ANC offices and therefore appeal for calm and discipline. They may have genuine concerns about the probity of compilation of PR lists but their actions undermine their cause. Forward to overwhelming ANC victory in 2011 local government elections!
