Thank you for a very informative political education class, which unfortunately fails flat to specifically say which organisation in the PYA has been reduced to a mouth piece in the media. ANCYL, YCL, SASCO, COSAS (inter alia). . . My point is that even if any of the organisations have something constructive to advocate for- media always wants to link it with some conspiracy or another , which is wrong, so therefore we should be mindful of the fact that sensationalism drives media at times, to the detriment of our organizations Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom - let your email find you! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sender: [email protected] Date: Thu, 9 Jun 2011 17:52:37 To: <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [YCLSA Discussion] ANCYL invites Mbeki to congress "our organisations of the PYA through the media have been reduced to mouth pieces opportunistically so" Which organisations are those MaNdima??? The President of the ANCYL in a press conference made it clear that the sitting President, Comrade Jacob Zuma will address. . But also bear in mind that it is the SG of the ANC that makes these deployments over and above invitations sent to him However this is a non-issue which has become an issue due to sensationalism and the opportunistic attempt to reduce an ANCYL congress to some lobby group for 2012. . This is an organisation of young people who will use this congress to make an analysis on the state of the organisation and deliberate on the discussion documents tabled and moreover come up with resolutions which will drive the youth of this country forward. Failure to do so will only be defeatist. .our organisations of the PYA through the media have been reduced to mouth pieces opportunistically so, because media in most instances will not cover progressive programmes, but will select sound bites (mostly quoted out of context) to sell papers. . Let's be cautious of what we believe and absorb. . Much as I agree wit Gugu that TM is not invited is only media sensationalism, I differ with the assertion that the congress will be addressed solely by the President of the ANC. The NWC reserve the right to whoever is deemed fit to attend the ANCYL congress either as a guest or a presenter of a certain topical issue that is part of congress. Surely, TM can be a valuable resource on certain thematic issues that are to be discussed in congress. It is up to the leadership of the ANCYL to either extend the invite or not. Media sensationalisation aside... Equally, I agree that the story in media does not confirm such an invitation from either the ANCYL or ANC or TM's office. I deliberately put the ANC because the constitution makes former presidents ex-officio members thus the SG of the ANC can deploy him to such a congress on behalf of the ANC. I differ with any view that suggest that this in a "non-discussion". Those who do not want to partake to the discussion should not attempt to stop those who have views on the topic. It is rather myopic to tell members of a discussion forum not to discuss. I collapse here...
