Castro and the VC thanks for taking us forward to the direction we need. Other comrades as well, your inputs have helped shape the discussion properly regardless whether we agree or differ in parts or whole of the content of your inputs including perceptions and assumptions.
The proposal by the VC takes the discussion to the highest level. It's also programmatic and developmental. Each one teach one. And also for giving the example that you give all the time, of confidence and boldness. You are a role model by now, my comrade. Nearly all of these points you give are good. I am sure you will not mind if I differ a little, and add a little more, here and there. The first thing I feel bound to say is: Try to write in prose, and not in bullet points. The reasons for this, we can discuss another time. In press releases, the main thing you are trying to do is to complete as much of the journalist's work as you possibly can, so as to make it very easy for the journalist to use your story. In doing so, you must realise that most of the time, if only by the law of averages, the journalist is not going to be able to get a long story in the paper. This is why you must be brief. In other words: Don't give the journalist the hard work of reducing the length. Do it yourself. Write like a journalist would write. In short sentences. And also, in short paragraphs. The journalist is going to have to contact somebody. Your e-mail by itself is not enough. There will have to be a phone call, as well. Therefore you must put a phone number at the bottom. No phone number, no story. I would also say: Do state the obvious. Do not presume that the journalist, or the reader, knows what may be obvious to you. But also, do not, if you can possibly avoid it, try to tell more than one story in a press release. Instead, make two or more press releases. Your stories will have much better chances of getting published, that way. This year, I am going to try to create an "Agitprop" course for the CU, which will include this thing of press releases, and also other things like flyers, posters, T-shirts, radio, graphic images, layout, and many other things having to do with agitational propaganda. Any ideas or advice or contributions from the collective on this matter of Agitprop in general will be gratefully received. You can post them to this forum, starting from now. Try to restrict yourself to one idea per sentence (average 20 words per sentence). • Keep press releases to one page if possible (three to six paragraphs) • State clearly who the press release is to and where it is from • Discard unrelated or unnecessary information • Don’t state the obvious - nobody has the time On 22 February 2013 17:21, morgan phaahla <[email protected]><mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: Greetings! I thought I would contribute by observing from afar as usual but I was compelled to come to the defence of the statement by Limpopo YL precisely because cde Alex seems to have over-exaggerated issues as if the statement is entirely devoid of sensible content. The so-called need to improve "technically" is no exception to Limpopo YL statement. As cde Rich pointed out, "We all need improvements in many ways than one, all of us." I thought you had a point driven home by suggesting that you will "talk to VC in the CU to circulate for us basic, intermediate and advanced tips on media statements." And I saw this as a project that will facilitate optimum involvement of all PYA components in the entire process. But I was disappointed by your last posting bordering on a caricature of the author. These negative tendencies are eroding the political integrity and moral standing of our movement. Accordingly, we should resist any temptation to overstate our sense of self-importance and egotistical disregard of others.
