What about formalizing via: or from: tags? If my del.icio.us page (or the network page, or a new page) showed that I got most of my links from certain users, you could drop me from your network and just subscribe directly to those users. The downside is that a good percentage of my via: tags are non-del.icio.us users, but I also had a lot of non-users as for: tags before they were formalized and I survived. Another way to push the social aspect might be expensive friend-of-a-friend queries. Instead of "saved by 9 other people" it could say "saved by 9 other people, 3 of your friends and 2 of their friends" or something. With links to show you exactly which friends-of-your-friends bookmarked your stuff.
