Nick, As a brand spanking new user, I am more than just a bit displeased. I initially installed the Del.icio.us extension. When I reopened Firefox, I was prompted to import my Bookmarks, so far so good. The prompt warned that it "might" take "a few minutes" for the import to complete.
Two hours later (and I'm on cable hi-speed), I was still waiting. There is no progress bar to let me know how much had been transferred, if any. I was left wondering if it was even working. Did it freeze? Is there a problem? How was I to know? Then questions began to run around in my head. Can I still surf? Or do I need to just let it go? How long is the average import time? When should I realize that there is a problem? In the meantime, I was unable to go to the sites I love, because I didn't have any Bookmarks whatsoever in my Firefox bookmarks. I still had to just wait and wonder. Finally in the end, I uninstalled the extension. My Bookmarks, as promised, were thankfully restored and what a lovely site it was to see them. So I, being the fair person that I am, decided that maybe it was just a fluke and let's try it again. I reinstalled the extension and closed my browser. Now what happened to the prompt to import my Bookmarks? I closed the browser, and fired it up again. Still no prompt. So now I go to the help pages and find that I can Export > Import the bookmarks. Well that's not really what I was hoping for, but okay. I suppose it was better than nothing. I follow the instructions and begin the import. I'm now taken to a page that basically tells me it's in progress (still no progress bar) and that it will refresh every one minute until it's complete. Two hours later, it's still refreshing. Annoyingly, I find a message at the bottom of that page which says: "Importing may take some time to complete, depending on how many bookmarks you have and how many other people are trying to import at the same time. If you have been seeing this message for over a day, please send an email to..." Excuse me?! Am I to understand that your server problem is SO bad that it might take a day or even more?! Then you won't even offer support unless it's been at least a day? How completely inefficient is that? Not to mention, when I look for the help files, I'm directed to this mailing list. I'm also directed to sign in under Yahoo. Excuse me, but while I understand that Del.icio.us is powered by Yahoo, but Del.icio.us has a different user name. Why is there no mailing list for only Del.icio.us users? I shouldn't have to link one account to another, unless it's all integrated together, which it clearly is not. I would think a mailing list for Del.icio.us with the Del.icio.us user name intact is in order. This all sounds very badly planned and a poor system indeed is in use here. I am still sitting here waiting, at this very moment, for my bookmarks to be imported and quite frankly, I'm just about ready to throw in the towel. This isn't the way cool extension that it's all cracked up to be, is much more trouble than what it actually worth, and is way too time consuming. There are plenty of other online bookmarking utilities and perhaps I should just go look elsewhere. I'm really trying to be patient here. Now all of that said... IF and only IF this import ever actually completes, what am I to do? I did reinstall the extension, but the extension, for some reason, isn't listed in my extensions. I guess this means that something went wrong, but how am I to know with all the problems I've been through? So what do I do now? Do I delete all those bookmarks once finished and start way the heck back over? This is so frustrating!
