MARKET SUMMARY Key benchmark indices manage to end positive with a volatile movement through out the day. After opening firm, the market soon lost ground in morning trade. Stocks moved between positive and negative territory on continuous bouts of buying and selling. The market cut losses in early afternoon trade. However, profit booking was also witnessed following the recent rally. After moving in a narrow range for a long time, midcap and smallcap stocks rallied sharply during the last couple of hours and recorded impressive gains. Meanwhile, positive sentiment following sustained buying by foreign funds also helped the recovery. The Sensex closed above its psychological 10000 mark and Nifty index ended above 3,100 levels. Finally the Sensex gained 45 points to close at 10,048 and the Nifty was up 26 points at 3,108.
