Dear community,
I am a new user of Yojimbo, and after a help mail to the technical
support to solve a problem, I am posting my first contribution...
1- My help e-mail was for a question on batch import of external
tabulated lists. As many users, I had another self made database of
items that I wanted to recycle into Yojimbo. The answer was a pointer
to Applescript, and after a short glance to the list archive, I
accessed an applescript posted by Jim DeVona, and tried. It was my
first modification of an applescript ever, and I tried to adapt
(importing other fields in the comment field etc...). I managed to
handle it. So thanks globally for this first step ! (I mean, to Jim
and to the support team, and to Steve Jobs for apple script... :-).
I am also taking the opportunity to a couple of RFFs, requests for
features, after my first trial period, whichg ended up successfully
in licensing !
1- Although applescript did it well, I still believe that a batch
import and batch export of tabulated lists is an easy and valuable
feature. It should be so easy to implement (even separately for item
types) that I cannot really see what is the problematic matter with
it. Getting in and out (securely) of any database seems to me a key
component.
2- Item structure: It seems to me that many items (mainly S/N and
passwords) could have a slightly more complete and harmonized field
structure. As examples, I somehow miss an e-mail field (and even an
owner field) in the password class, and a location field in the S/N
class. I may understand that some additions could be at expense of
simplicity (for quick imports for example), but a simple compromise
could be found (at least it seems to me). Here again I do not think
big changes are needed.
3- "location" active links: The location field of passwords (extended
to the S/N item, see previous point ?) may be usefully "generalized"
and "activated". I mean by this the two following features: i)
generalized to standard urls (http://, mailto://, telnet://, ftp://,
even file://), with the corresponding first choice handlers
designated in Yojimbo's preference, and ii) made active by clicking
somewhere in the handler to open the corresponding location/url.
4- A feature for hiding some item types in the library (eg the
password class items ?) may be useful, but not sure if this would be
at the expense of simplicity...
OK, I am closing this first list, and thank the support group and
community in helping my entering smoothly.
Cheers
Yvan
