There was another session manager (I can't remember the name of) that was being
promoted before LV2 surfaced, but it required a lot of changes to Yoshimi's
internal structure so never got done.

One of the reasons for us providing multi part-output on jack was to enable
independent part routing paths while avoiding the overhead of having multiple
whole Yoshimi instances - I suppose that could be regarded as a nod to session
management in itself.

Personally, I don't use any session management at all. I tend to be far more
hands-on, and these days it's almost entirely just Rosegarden + Yoshimi
