The changeset you narrowed down is from September 2024,
and thus predates my XML refactoring. This would rather
speak against a relation to the XML topic. But since I
saw in detail that this style is controlled from the
compatibility info in the XML, it is still a possibility
that this information flow was broken, and not the actual
styling in the GUI.

PS: can we narrow down the investigation to a single example
and one isolated code location in the GUI? Can we put a
diagnostic in there, to verify that this styling is set
in the intended way at runtime?
