I have just purchased the Special Media Edition of Office 2008 (upgrade retail box). I installed it on my MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz that runs fully updated OS X 10.5.7, and which contains a fully updated version of Office 2004.
Everything went well with the installation (before starting, I'd closed all visible applications; e.g., those with visible Windows or Dock icons), but when I began running updates, the Service Pack 1 installation stopped with a "quit_apps" dialog on screen reporting "Microsoft Office 2008 Update" doesn't understand the «event sysodisA» message The dialog offered two options: "Edit" and "OK". First time through, I clicked on "OK" and the updater appeared to run to completion. However, once I'd completed all updates and launched Entourage for the first time, it posted a dialog to the screen reporting something about Entourage Shared Items not being moved; the application opened seemingly normally. I worried that perhaps I didn't get a complete installation, so I ran the "Remove Office" application, removed Office 2008, and started over. The initial installation went fine (my product key had been retained and I didn't need to reenter it), but updates paused at the same location. This time, I clicked "Edit" in the above dialog, and Script Editor launched. I didn't see the above text in the script (perhaps that says something about why the script didn't understand the event). I Quit Script Editor, and the update then proceeded. Can anyone tell me what went wrong with my update? Is the Office installation damaged?
