The daemon runs in the background for the Entourage notifications. If
you don‘t use them, then the daemon doesn’t have to be running.
I use
Entourage, Word, Excel, and occasionally PPt. Never have had an
apparent
problem.
I do have Microsoft AU Daemon in the Activity Monitor and as a Login
Item.
The AU daemon runs in the background for Automatic Updates. It checks
on the MS site periodically to see if there is an update available,
