The advice to backup before updating is cold comfort to anyone who has lost data. Nevertheless... I always make a clone of the internal drive to an external drive using SuperDuper! before I do a major update, including MS updates and Apple's own updates. After the cloning process, I boot on the clone drive to make sure it is working. If the clone boots properly, I reboot on the internal drive and then do the update. If anything is screwy after the update, I can immediately go back to the cloned drive and use SuperDuper! to easily restore the internal drive from the external drive. Large external drives are now inexpensive. You can get a 1TB external drive in a case for about $150 - $180 from www.Weibetech.com or OWC www.macsales.com. I have one WiebeTech clone for my iMac, and another WiebeTech portable for the MacBook Pro. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roger S.
