Unfortunately, these still don't solve my problem with an MSI US54SE. I'm using Debian (a mixture of sarge and etch right now) and the 2.6.20.3 kernel, with the two patches above. The device is detected correctly, loads its firmware, associates with the access point (a FritzBox 7141 DSL router), and even gets a DHCP response; but after that, it's just dead in the water. According to 'ifconfig', it never receives any packets (which is strange, since the DHCP responses arrived without problem). Here are some extracts from the system logs; the sequence of events was - plug in USB stick - ifup eth1 (works) - ping -I eth1 192.167.178.1 (try to ping router, 'network unreachable') - ifdown eth1 - ifdown eth0 (just to make sure eth0 doesn't interfere) - ifup eth1 (still works) - ping 192.168.178.1 ('network unreachable') - ifdown eth1 # /var/log/messages Mar 20 21:32:31 gondolin kernel: usb 1-2.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: usb 1-2.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13 Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: zd1211rw 1-2.3:1.0: firmware version 4725 Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: zd1211rw 1-2.3:1.0: zd1211b chip 0ace:1215 v4810 full 00-02-72 AL2230_RF pa0 g--NS Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: zd1211rw 1-2.3:1.0: eth1 Mar 20 21:32:32 gondolin kernel: usbcore: registered new interface driver zd1211rw Mar 20 21:33:02 gondolin kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready Mar 20 21:33:03 gondolin kernel: SoftMAC: Open Authentication completed with 00:04:0e:e9:05:5d Mar 20 21:33:03 gondolin kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth1: link becomes ready Mar 20 21:34:38 gondolin kernel: SoftMAC: Open Authentication completed with 00:04:0e:e9:05:5d Mar 20 21:37:47 gondolin kernel: usb 1-2.3: USB disconnect, address 4 # /var/log/daemon.log Mar 20 21:33:02 gondolin pumpd[1615]: PUMP: sending discover Mar 20 21:33:07 gondolin pumpd[1615]: got dhcp offer Mar 20 21:33:07 gondolin pumpd[1615]: PUMP: sending second discover Mar 20 21:33:07 gondolin pumpd[1615]: reject: xid: 0x5b727dc1 <--> 0x5b727dc0 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: PUMP: got an offer Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: reject: xid: 0x5b727dc2 <--> 0x5b727dc1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: PUMP: got lease Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: device: eth1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: set: 416 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: bootServer: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: reqLease: 43200 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: ip: 192.168.178.21 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: next server: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: netmask: 255.255.255.0 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: gateways[0]: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: numGateways: 1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: dnsServers[0]: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: numDns: 1 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: broadcast: 192.168.178.255 Mar 20 21:33:08 gondolin pumpd[1615]: intf: network: 192.168.178.0 Mar 20 21:33:09 gondolin pumpd[1615]: configured interface eth1 Mar 20 21:33:09 gondolin pumpd[1615]: failed to set default route: File exists Mar 20 21:34:18 gondolin pumpd[1615]: disabling interface eth1 Mar 20 21:34:26 gondolin pumpd[1615]: disabling interface eth0 Mar 20 21:34:26 gondolin pumpd[1615]: terminating as there are no more devices under management Mar 20 21:34:37 gondolin pumpd[2668]: starting at (uptime 0 days, 0:04:46) Tue Mar 20 21:34:37 2007 Mar 20 21:34:37 gondolin pumpd[2668]: PUMP: sending discover Mar 20 21:34:42 gondolin pumpd[2668]: got dhcp offer Mar 20 21:34:42 gondolin pumpd[2668]: PUMP: sending second discover Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: PUMP: got an offer Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: PUMP: got lease Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: device: eth1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: set: 416 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: bootServer: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: reqLease: 43200 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: ip: 192.168.178.21 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: next server: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: netmask: 255.255.255.0 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: gateways[0]: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: numGateways: 1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: dnsServers[0]: 192.168.178.1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: numDns: 1 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: broadcast: 192.168.178.255 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: intf: network: 192.168.178.0 Mar 20 21:34:43 gondolin pumpd[2668]: configured interface eth1 Mar 20 21:37:25 gondolin pumpd[2668]: disabling interface eth1 Mar 20 21:37:25 gondolin pumpd[2668]: terminating as there are no more devices under management This behavior is the same regardless of whether I'm using WPA2, WEP or an unencrypted connection. One additional problem I have with the US54SE, which might be related, is that 'iwconfig' always reports a bit rate of 1Mb/s, and refuses (without error message or other indication of failure) to let me change it. The access point, however, says that the connection is running at 54Mb/s. Any ideas?
