I'm afraid it's the wrong firmware. You MUST use the firmware available at 
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=129083 , not the one 
packaged with Debian (there's a prominent notice on the linuxwireless.org 
website also).
I also use Etch and I've put the firmware files (not the Debian ones) 
under /lib/firmware/zd1211. It works for me.

You'd better recompile the whole kernel, not just the module. However try with 
the correct firmware first.
