Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the quick reply.

I didn't feel too comfortable with it, but it solved my immediate problem.
We have about 2000 OEM modules from Abocom which are being assembled into
our embedded Linux devices. It seems Abocom have supplied a mix of WUG2960
built with a mix of ZD1211(B) and AL2230(S). They definitely all use the
same USB ID of 07b8:6001. I needed some way of running a single Linux
driver
supporting the WLAN independent of the chipsets used.

I did check the ZD1211 chip markings and can confirm that they are
different (one lot are ZD1211 and the other are ZD122B) yet same USB ID.
I did not check the RF chips because they are under an RF shield which I
can't remove without destroying the module. The E2P_POD ID returned by the
WLAN modules based on the AL2230 is 0x104 and the ID for modules based on
the AL2230S is 0x0A.
If you like, I could send you one of each, just send me your address and
I can get them to you via DHL within a day or two.

Sorry, but I didn't see it.
Regards
Tom
