Greetings Siska and all I now find it odd thinking about it but my first venture into Zen those many moons ago was about this 'new religion'. In the days when I was all hyped up about Zen/Buddha as well as having this almost uncontrollable need to share it with the world, I used to bump into a few evangelistic or plainly devout Moslems and I'd often find it insulting when they referred to Buddhism as a philosophy but not a religion. Things have changed over the years, as I now tell most outsiders (especially when I just can't be bothered explaining Buddha[or related matters]...explanations can get so tiresome...) that I don't have any religion of any sort. People would then comment on my Buddha pendant around the neck, and I just say,"Oh yes, it is pretty isn't it? . I got it at the flea market for a dollar"...and walk off(or change topic)... Once one starts getting into such things as... -BigMind -dependent yet independent -Buddha nature -not one, but two...etc... ...then one better have the patience of a saint when face-to-face, because I certainly don't... praised be to Buddha Mel From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 14 January 2012 11:34 PM Subject: Re: [Zen] New to Group
Hi Mel, All, I'd say we can find below instances in almost every 'religion', zen included. Or perhaps, 'zen buddhism'. Siska
