Then if the head of a comet is coming head on to your earth, there is no way we 
can deflect it. Human beings will follow the footsteps of the dinosaurs. That 
will solve all pollution and war problems, paving the way for a new kind of 
'sentient beings'. Nevertheless, the new beings will still have greed and 
hatred.

Exactly, yes; the HEAD of a comet, the so-called "nucleus" can be
1 km or 10 km across. Big as Manhattan Island, on the large side.
You don't want to be hit by that, anywhere on earth. The tail is
pretty: the head is not! It is like a hammer.

The energy of collision would be like that of tens of millions of (rather 
large) hydrogen thermo-nuclear bombs. Note that energy goes
as the velocity (of impact) SQUARED. That's a big factor, as velocity
goes up, say. But no impact would be safe, because Cosmical velocities
are always quite high. That's life. ;-)
