I may be mistaken, but a recent poster stated a couple things I think reflect,
a common misunderstanding, which I myself, have had in the past.
One had to do with Zen in tools, such as typewriters. Its my understanding that
Zen itself is the tool for staying present, thus pulling away the mask of
delusion. This delusion would be everything; including those tools.
Secondly, we always hear people saying to live in the moment, and enjoy every
moment. This is a huge indicator, that the original meaning was lost somewhere,
and some easy-going, hippy, feel good meaning was attached, that has no basis
in the original meaning.
The original idea is that presence brings to light, REALITY. Presence is not an
easy thing, or even a light hearted thing, to sustain. This means being
conscious of every action you take in every moment.
I try doing this all the time, but am unable to do it even 25% of my day.
Usually, much less. When I wake, I try to experience every sensation of
washing, brushing teeth, shaving, eating, walking, breathing, etc. Its
amazingly tiring for me. However, I will gambate, and try to do better all the
time, as victory will come through this method, as it quiets mind, and this, in
turn brings golden insights, and weakens mind's hold, thus making the task more
rewarding, and the goal ever closer.
