thank you joe.
.i ask a question..before books...was there zen bamboo breathing?
..some one has to experience this first before they write "a how to do
analysis"..
.i am one who strongly believes we must go back to the very beginning ..the
essence
...many things are written..and i thank you for the link and appreciate your
link.
.. yes i  have read " stuff"
..however the everyday to do..that is what must be done and as you yourself say
practise practise and practise.

..insight is not in the book..as you yourself would so strongly agree.
..when i see the bamboo... the one thing i am in awe of is it's strength.
..and it's hollow inside..amazing.

..my thoughts recall the poem those "hollow men" by t.s eliot
how many of us are shamefully hollow?

.. i carry a bamboo stick on my meditation walks around the 4 acre garden.

i trust your day is going well

 cheers merle

Merle, it's the differing space between the joints in the bamboo... the breath
can be broken-up like this, some while into zazen, to cause a change, and to
help an entry into samadhi. No other artifice is needed. This is ancient and
proven technology, suited to the human makeup... even if you do not wear
makeup. *I* don't, usually.

"Check out" Sekida's book:

...from a library, that is... or:

http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Training-Philosophy-Shambhala-Classics/dp/1590302834/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341111637&sr=8-1&keywords=sekida+zen

Or get it used, locally, as I would, for a few $US, or AU. I've had my copy
since 1979.

Cheers, strong practice,

;-)
