Yep, served in Berlin (Spandau) in 85/86 with the British Army when the Wall
was still up. Loved Berlin. I imagine it's a completely different city now. It
had such a unique spirit of freedom because of the Wall. I was there all that
time and all I managed to learn, in German, was 'One beer, please'. Essential
survival language tho.

I loved Paul Keating. His Irish ancestry gave him that rebellious anti-English
aristocracy bent that I love. The UK papers called him 'The Lizard of Oz'
because of his support for Australia becoming a republic. I also admire his
pro-Aborigine policies. He was a key architect in native title legislation and
Mabo. Strewth, I miss Perth heaps!. Sunday sessions, Paul Kelly, Freo and
Cottesloe Beach, VB and my Blue Heeler called Cida (Welsh for 'good dog'). Good
times.

Mike

thank you mike..yes there was the song and the singing..that brought the wave
of independence

have you been to berlin?
i was there in may 2005..and saw all the history of the wall..i have a young
german friend 35..he was raised in east berlin he lives in halle

charles darwin... why the ???????
yes gillard is an atheist declared and childless and a woman and living in sin
with her now partner...she's brilliant..really cares about the workers.
.but as you and i know that will not last...the ones at the top of the food
chain are eager to stamp out worker's rights..jesus..can't have the slaves set
free.
.. the workers themselves in this country are their own worst enemy..fall for
all the traps..."you too can become a millionaire bullshit"
..as if being so is the so desired state...
howard is evil through and through.
.. paul keating was the p.m... labour at the time..brilliant intellectual...and
the mantra was called from the temple...".that man has to go"..and the chanting
began.

.the workers they heard the call .."that man has to go"...referring to
keating..and so he went..
howard was elected to take australia back 10 years..gutted education gutted
medicare gutted social security...attacked the workers.....etc and gave the
rich tax cuts
.
now..it's gillard's turn... with the mantra..".worst govt since
federation"..."who can you trust"...blah blah..slogans..
.say em often enough as the nazi's did and it sinks into their tiny
brains...that "gillard's got to go" sing song.
.. i mean to say... yes jesus...( don't worry about me mike..i'll use the jesus
christ name...i'll answer to christ when d day arrives.)..and reflect on this
if christ walked in any christian church today would the mob there recognise
him?..they certainly would not at the sandstone church at the top of my
hill..but maybe i am being too critical..maybe it's me who would not know

.. you take it easy...the prayer mat is awaiting
 take care
 cheers from aussieland

Merle,

Even when she's 6ft under, that woman and her policies will still be causing
problems. Yeah, I remember little 'Honest John' Howard. Evil-weevil policies,
but a brilliant politician (in a really, really, really evil way).

I didn't know much about the current PM until after I'd left Oz. I know she's
from Barry, which is 9 miles from where I live. I also heard she proclaimed
herself as an atheist since serving as PM. What a different world to the US!
Hey, did you know that in Britain, Charles Darwin is celebrated on the back of
a £10 note?

Estonia. Don't know much, I'm afraid. I have heard that when they were
struggling for independence they formed an unbroken arm to arm link with people
(2,000,000) from Lithuania and Latvia and sang. Must've been amazing! Yes,
Wales is described as beautiful and mysterious. Celtic history is noticeable
(castles, language, art) and permeates thru Welsh consciousness. A land of myth
and legend...
