Mike,
Regarding atmospheric-composition change, the key point is to know that the
additional CO2 added during at least the past 55 years to the atmosphere is
from fossil sources. The change in the isotopic ratio of C in the CO2 shows
this.
Then, it's important to know that CO2 is a green-house gas.
