Edgar,

Nothing "Red" about it.

Ch'an developed in China *long* before the Communists took over.

Zen Buddhism knows no flag.

The are no "belts" in Zen, unlike in some other arts.

In Zen, everybody newcomer thinks she is a Black Belt.

The trick is to get back to White Belt. That's the rub. The work.

The way to formally convert is to take the Refuges, and the Precepts.
There are no papers to sign. Our Religion is a way of the Heart.

The formality is for oneself, not for others.

If one speaks of it, it's to inform others that this is available.

PS And there's no one "like" Joe.
