You guys are too much! First of all I've been an RN for over 40 years and not
a Muse! I have indeed been with these people for many years and when I'm not
with them another nurse is and what their intake is for both food and fluids is
recorded. Also, believe it or not, these people, many of them lived on one or
two hoodsies for one or maybe two meals. Same with the toast and tea. Am simply
stating one professional's observation. The answer for me for alot of what you
guys argue about came from Chang Tzu's " water is for fishes." Happy seeking or
just being.. [email protected]

Laughing Water,

First thanks for joining the conversation.

Second all the stories such as the one you mention turn out to be hoaxes when
investigated.

And of course they are impossible to scientifically confirm unless you yourself
were in the company of this ice cream and toast person 24/7 for many years
which is obviously impossible. So you are just repeating what he/she told you
without any objective confirmation.

However such hoaxes are often easy to falsify and often are. In fact there is a
guy in India who has made it his mission to go around exposing all the 'gurus'
that sneak out for good meals between claiming they eat only this and that. He
also debunks their supposed superpower tricks. Sort of like an Indian Randy.
He's exposed hundreds of them....

What you probably mean when you say this person lived ONLY on ice cream and
toast is that he/she ate a lot (too much) of those two items. But NOT only
those items which is simply not credible.

It's an important scientific distinction to discriminate accurately between All
the time and Some of time. Credibility and truth depend on getting it right.
And Zen realization depends on knowing the TRUE nature of the world of forms
especially when it concerns the claims by or about Zen teachers.

Best,
Edgar

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Am using a different account ...used to write in

must have been lawyers or rabbis in a different life together by the way you
argue back and forth and dissect things! As a Muse of 40 plus years I can tell
you I've had many a patient eat just ice cream and or toast every day and live
for many years...well over 6 years. Obviously it's not healthy and their
strength was not the greatest but it definitely can be done. Keep up the good

Bill,

I've answered this repeatedly though I'll be happy to again.

Realization (Zen) is directly experiencing reality as it actually is.

Intelligence allows those ON THE WAY to discern what is actually real and what
is illusory.

Only then can reality (the reality of the world of forms) as it actually is be
directly experienced. Only then can we be sure that our direct experience is of
reality rather than illusion... That your "just this" is Just this REALITY
instead of just this ILLUSION since both reality and illusion can be directly
experienced.

So this applies to realization of the Buddha Nature of the WORLD OF FORMS, not
the formless, though intelligence is equally important to the UNDERSTANDING
though not the EXPERIENCE of the formless.

So intelligence is a necessary step ON THE way. It is NOT realization but a
necessary step to achieve realization...

Anyone who has read my posts here will see I've said this many times before...
Many times though I know it hasn't been well understood and people mistakenly
accuse me of claiming intellectual understanding is Zen. I've never said that
as you can see above it's not my belief....

Thanks for asking and sorry if this wasn't clear before. Hope it is now....

Edgar,

I'll give you the benefit of a doubt - a very BIG doubt...

Here it is again:

What role do you think intelligence has in realizing Buddha Nature?

That's it...Bill!
