Merle,
Then you're made of stern stuff.
"Stern" is "star" in German.
I read Kandinsky first in Spanish on a L-O-N-G bus trip in Chile, where bus
travel is taken very seriously, and all the buses are made in Italy or Germany.
The book was bus-company property. Nice illustrations. Never found a copy in
the States like it. Printed in Spain, I think. I had to leave it on the bus.
When I read it in English, I could not get through it.
If I try it again with better results, I'll let you know. I'll look for it
next time I search here for ISLAND. I've noted here before that Dover has a
nice edition of Kandinsky: I read my sweetum's copy before she lit out.
I was dubious about your getting all the way through with it because he seemed
to miss a lot of good opportunities to be succinct.
When I had to work at it, in Spanish, I took it as a challenge. In English, it
bored me. I thought it would bore you, too, and you would bog-down as I did.
That's why I questioned. Nothing personal to you, but to the author (or
translator??).
