He gave up his day job and is trying to support himself by writing and
travelling around visiting sanghas - it's not really that lucrative of a
position.  I donate to his blog as I donate to other blogs from
professional writers that I enjoy because I like good writing and I don't
wish it to vanish altogether.

Apparently he gets about US$6K for his writing, and the donations and stuff
are materially useful for him.
