who is enlightened and who is not...is the burning question!...
. no teacher worth their weight in gold me thinks would say so however they demonstrate by being thus joe too far to travel. .to where will i go from this mountain top with my magic monkey stick and all eh? i have been known to use a broomstick ... is that a no no in zen? merle Merle, Yes, it's a natural question. There are confirmatory signs which a teacher can recognize. Also, a famous saying in our sect is that one will drink water and know for *oneself* if it is warm or cool. But, it is best -- safest -- to have a teacher as a "touchstone", to determine if you are in fact real "Gold". Even if you have no teacher, you can *TRAVEL* to an established teacher to be tested. It takes all of about ten seconds (usually ten times less). --Joe > Merle Lester <merlewiitpom@...> wrote: > > joe..how do we know if one is truly awakened?..merle > > Merle, > > In true compassion as it arises in the awakened person, there is no judging. > There is, however, spontaneous and instant arising of natural Wisdom, > according to the causes and conditions present.
