Merle,
I don't fathom what all the diamond nonsense is about here, lately; the last
I'll say about it is as follows:
"Cleavage" concerns more than female human physiology.
Any Iron tool can cleave a crystal along a Primary Plane, although usually
hardened Tool-Steel is used, so the cleavage tool will not need re-surfacing
too often. But the tool-steel must not be too hardened, else it will be
brittle, so a certain Rockwell hardness is settled upon, and standard (I won't
reveal trade-secrets).
Diamond can be cleaved by such an iron (steel) tool, and correct technique: a
sharp blow along the line of the Primary Plane. That plane is found by
methodology I will not divulge.
The "cutting" you refer to is grinding, altogether a droll and un-magical
process. It is the "faceting" of gem faces. Yes, faceting is what gives the
jewel it's charm and fascination in the eyes of most. The ground faces are
then polished with a compound, but polishing, too, involves mere abrasion, at a
finer and finer level.
Faceting is entirely arbitrary and *ARTIFICIAL*, and has nothing to do with
Nature.
The chief property and feature of closest identification with the nature of
crystal is ...Cleavage.
Cleavage is seldom -- if ever -- done, upon diamonds. A stone is usually left
as large as it is, as found. It's an economic issue. No one will profit from
cleaving a large stone into tiny ones.
Issue closed, for me.
Now, I ask you a Zen question:
"WHO profits when the One becomes the Many?"
