Merle,
Books are friends.
Your friends are not going to "get you there", either.
We practice together, but we practice alone. Let me re-phrase that: we
practice alone, but we practice together.
The books and the friends won't do it. One must just let oneself settle.
Every day, settle, every day deeper. That is practice.
But don't leave out the books and friends. God knows we need them. We Human
"beans" are multi-faceted.
