joe..don't you have to have insight to awaken?... i thought zen was all about

No.  Negative.  Negatory.  Reason and reasoning, or other movements of mind, 
are a hindrance and preventative to awakening while one is practicing 
intensively, as on sesshin.  I've said this a number of times in this forum so 
far, and have agreed with Bill! and I think others in this/on this.

At and after awakening, wisdom and compassion arise spontaneously, and 
simultaneously.  I've said this a number of times, too.

I never said *anything* about "Insight".  I am not an "Insight" meditator, 
either.

But I will say now that "insight" goes only so far, ...and so does one who has 
insight.  The key in our way is to AWAKEN.
