Merle, If you can do nothing about it, there is nothing to be gained by your worrying about it. If there is something to be done about it, do that; again nothing to be gained by worrying about it. Suffering existed long before you and will exist long after you.
If in reading of some suffering, you are sad, be sad. Do not seek to be other than you actually are. I personally tend to read rather less wrenchingly sad news than before I sad, and a bit more hopeful, inspiring-to-take-action type news, but of course that's a personal matter. You can't stop some evil over there, but you can be kind to the people you interact with - and that is not only all you can do, it is enough. Pick up the litter in front of you, smile at your neighbor, rest yourself when tired, paint just the right painting, kall these are ways in which we can fulfill the promise of the moment. That's my 2 cents. --Chris Thanks, --Chris [email protected] +1-301-270-6524 On Thu, Apr 4, 2013 at 4:41 PM, Merle Lester <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > yes all and edgar..and i did 3 hours of solid weeding in my zen garden on > monday afternoon...weeding to me is meditation in action... > > however to quieten my mind i have now realised i need to sit stand/ > remain silent and do the breath.. > > the only way at the moment i can work with the breath joe and mike is to > count..slowly to 10..the breath being taken in and slowly to 10 to release > the breath.. > > this is the only way i can focus on breath..otherwise i am thinking of > where is my breath..it seems so quiet...i can't hear it..i need to hear it > to clear my mind... > ' > thank you for your support all... > > what really stumbles me is when i read and see atrocities committed in our > world and i cannot do anything about it... > > what good am i with all this being calm and compassionate...where can it > lead me?... > > yes i know if we all practised then the world would surely be a calm and > peaceful place... > > but it is not..yes we still have work to do to change the consciousness of > mankind.. > > it is on going the task and i think that folk are getting more aware and > practising meditation... > > however my heart goes out to folk who must suffer through no fault of > their own..they are innocent and the wickedness is all around them and they > are indeed victims of injustices... > > tell me then where must my attention turn?... > > i cannot turn away > > i am suffering when i hear and see these atrocities... > > any advice for me would be most welcomed... > > thank you for your patience from one who has a very rebellious streak and > hates rules and regulations.... > merle > > All, > > I was just telling Joe I spent most of the day in active meditation in my > garden. > > What does that mean?
