Guy, there's a very easy way to test yourself: obtain a copy of one of the Sutras on the ultimate teaching (such as the Diamond Sutra, or Heart Sutra). If what you read there doesn't baffle you, if you can penetrate the deep meaning of the Buddha's words, you will know that your experience was indeed beyond words and concepts. Otherwise, if you can't see through and discern the profound teaching, chalk your experience up to Ego's temper tantrum.
